Fiber Arts

Postby Edwin » Sat Dec 17, 2011 3:48 pm

Are any of you into fiber arts? My wife, Carol, and our daughter, Dianne, are both into fiber arts. Dianne's identical twin sister crochets and knits, but she doesn't spin, although I think she has spun a little, but she doesn't do it on a regular basis. Carol, spins, knits, crochets, and a few other activities in relation to the yarn. Dianne does beautiful weaving, and Carol started to learn, but she decided that weaving is not something she wants to spend her time at. Weaving is quite simple, but it can be tedious, and tying all the threads in the loom to get it started can drive you crazy, and Carol doesn't want to be crazy. Every other Saturday is the guild day where mostly women get together, knit, spin, crochet, visit, eat, and have parties, especially around Christmas time. One of the ladies from the guild can be a monster, and she bawled, chewed out Dianne in front of everyone, so Dianne got her feelings hurt, swore she would never go back, and didn't for 6 months, but now she is back having fun with everyone else and we are very happy about it, because it was sadness for Carol and my sister-in-law that she would not attend, and I know she missed it, but partially her pride would not allow her to return until just a week ago or so, and we are happy that she decided to go back to attending guild with all the other ladies! :D :D :D :D

Carol and our daughter who lives here just left for the spinning/knitting guild. Some of them crochet, some of them weaver, and they do other things with fiber. Oh, lonesome me! It is now 9:38 a.m., and they will be gone until probably 3:30 p.m., but it is okay. They missed going a quite a bit her lately, and Carol really misses it. There was some fighting among the women, and our daughter got insulted, so she didn't want to go for about 6 months. Then my sister-in-law got insulted, so I don't think she is going yet, and so Carol did not have a way to go. I could have taken her, but I am not invited since I don't do any of the fiber arts stuff, and that would be a long time to be somewhere else alone and away from home! They will have fun, and our daughter is over the worst of her insult. Some people get insulted far too easy. Sometimes they ask to be insulted by things that they do. Sometimes they stick their noses in other people's business where it does not belong, and then they wonder why they get into trouble!

I have a couple friends into that sort of thing. They are both in wheelchairs and are somewhat limited in what they can do.They even have a lot of difficulty getting outside on a nice day. We just set up a loom and the younger one loves it.Everybody feels better when they can produce something, these two are no exception.
I`m going to head over this week and get the garden ready for planting, Then I`m going to rebuild the access ramp so they can both get outside easier to enjoy the backyard and expand their horizons a bit.
I check for balls of yarn and stuff like that at yard sales for them.Right now my income is very limited but I`m still able to make their lives somewhat better.
I`ve been wondering if it would be worth it to buy old sweaters and unravel them. Some projects require a lot of yarn!

Where we used to live one of my jobs was to deal with the garbage of this resort we worked at. At the garbage place they not only had garbage, but good stuff that someone dumps because they don't want it anymore. People who live there are welcome to take anything there, and even encouraged to do that if they can use something. While we lived there I got lots of yarn from that place. Carol bought a lot of yard from a lady's estate after she was dead from a float plane crash in the lake. Carol has given a lot of it away, because she can only use so much yarn. Our daughter into kniting, and she would often knit when she was upset, and that would make her feel better. Carol really missed going to those guild meeting while the people that normally gave her a ride were too upset with other people to go. Now our daughter is more at peace with the other guild ladies, but my sister-in-law and her sister are mad enough that they are not attending. I would be comical if it were not so serious. Our daughter got into it with my sister-in-law's sister, and she would not attend for about 6 months. Now those 2 are mad, and they won't attend. The sister-in-law's sister does not get along with her sister-in-law, and that is where a lot of the trouble comes from. Often times this lady does not even know that they are mad at her!  Carol and our daughter commented that the guild was a lot more pleasant without them!
