SALVATION FOR THE DEAD ALSO?

I heard many people praying for their dead loved ones that they might be saved. I thought what a waste of time. Salvation is for alive people not for dead. Salvation is today while you are still alive.

Red, I think while there is life there is hope. "It is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgement." I think we choose while we are living, and once we die we have made our choice. I think a person can accept the Lord and find repentance as they are dying. This is substantiated by the thief on the cross by Jesus, who asked Jesus to remember him. Jesus told him, "This day you will be with me in paradise." I know some believe in praying for the dead, but I think it is pointless. When you are praying faithfully for someone, and then they die, it is hard to stop praying for them after that, because you have formed the habit of praying for them. The rich man and Lazereth both made their decision before they died. Lazereth was carried by the angels into Abraham's boosom, but the rich man found himself in torment. He called to Abraham to have someone go to his brothers to warn them so that they would not come to that place, but Abraham told him even though someone would come from the dead they would not believe. Abraham told them, they have the law and the prophets let them hear them. People make their decision while they are living, and then they end up going to heaven or hell depending on what they decide, either to accept or reject. If they reject there is no salvation for them.
