Immigration Policy

There's new policy in Phils. Immigration. Foreigners going to this country for visiting must show proof that they are going to leave this country . That proof is plane ticket back from Phils. If fail to show proof immigration would not allow tourist to enter the Phils. Actually that is new because my husband was not asked before. So he had to purchase ticket. But refundable though. Immigration there in NAIA is so strict now lots of pinoys going abroad as tourist were not permitted to go despite complete papers. Sucks.

What really sucks is that my husband and among others who were at o hare chicago airport going phils were told about this new policy and forced to purchase ticket, then when he arrived at naia the immigration didnt even check and ask for proof.

The policy has been in place for quite a while but it is not consistently enforced. The airlines say that you must buy a return ticket but that is not the policy. You can have any exit ticket.Get the cheapest flight to Vietnam or Cambodia. As long as you have a ticket out of the country you are OK in the eyes of the law. Of course the airlines would rather sell you a ticket to N.America or Europe. Their business is to sell tickets.

Yes, I have read about this policy some time back on visajourney.com. I think Smiley is right about it being a rule for a long time, but not always enforced. I don't remember them asking about return tickets, but I think they could see that I had them with me. Also I think Smiley is correct about any ticket out of the country qualifying even if it is to Hong Kong. I don't remember the length of time a foreigner is allowed to be in the Philippines with extentions before they have to leave, but all they have to do is fly to one of the nearby countries, like Korea, spend a couple of nights in the hotel, and then they are qualified to return to the Philippines and begin their time all over again. Complications, complications!
