There is an old saying, "Waste not, want not." It means that if you are wasteful you may later need what you throw away. There are two extremes on this. There are the ones who keep everything forever, and if they ever throw anything away, they will never do it again, because later they need what they threw away. They tend to collect junk and have more things than they have room for! I am that kind of person, unfortuneately! My older brother said one time that he didn't like clutter so he was going to throw anything away that he didn't think he might need within a month or so. I worked with two brothers who were each type of person. The one threw things away that he should have kept, and he would cut electric chords off, or otherwise disable those things so that no one else could use them either. The other brother wanted to keep everything, and they had constant conflicts over that.
Manufacturers make things that they know will not last so that you will wear your appliance out shortly, and have to buy another one. Often the parts cost more than a brand new appliance, so it does not pay to fix anything, but the only thing you can do is haul your applicance to the dump! I was talking with my brother about a one ton truck that our neighbors have that caught fire and burned. It was in the snow so the tires are even still good. It is still a nice looking old chevy truck, but my brother told me that parts cost so much that it would be cheaper to buy one that was already running.
I do need to work to throw more things away that I don't think I am going to use, but that is hard for me, so I will probably keep everything that I have space for until I am forced to get rid of it. I am a prisoner to my collecting habits! How about you?
