That is a wonderful part of filipino culture to help each other, and that is the way it should be. It used to be more that way in this country many years ago. The children took care of their parents and helped them. Family and relatives helped each other. I don't know what changed things, but they are different now. We have welfare, so anyone who hits the hard times gets help from the welfare, rather than having family help them through hard times. When people get old and can't take care of themselves the children allow them to be put in some home somewhere, where many times no one cares. Those places cost a terribly lot of money, so their home is sold to pay for them, and then after they are completely broke, which doesn't take long at the prices those old folk's homes charge, the the welfare helps them out. The kids can allow their parents to be put off somewhere to be lonely and die alone and they don't care at all. Not everyone one is like that, but that is the normal thing that happens. I think it is wonderful that in the filipino culture they have feelings for each other, and they support each other!
