The OFW situation is a tragedy that is not unique to the Philippines, yet impacts many within the Philippines.
One family member makes an amazing sacrifice for the love of that family, yet it can be unappreciated. This lack of appreciation is the tragedy I refer to above. So do not let it happen in your family. Turn your direction towards appreciation of that sacrifice. Make the absent person your direction and keep their memory alive. Understand what drove them to travel hundreds, more likely thousands of miles, away from the ones they love. Use modern communication, text messages, chat, email, Facebook, etc. to keep that person participating in the family even though from a great distance.
The OFW are the unsung heroes of the Philippines. You have a direction - embrace it and make it your duty that the absent OFW in your family still feel part of the family.
