Sawing Wood

Postby Edwin » Tue Jan 03, 2012 2:50 pm

I am sawing wood with an electric chain saw. The saw belongs to my kids. It is fairly quiet, and all I have to do is string out the electric extension chord each time I cut the wood. I have a nice gas powered Stihl chain saw, I think it is .28, or something like that, and an old one so it is actually a larger saw than they are making with those same numbers now. It is buried in our stuff, and the chain saw gas is getting pretty old, so it might not work that good. What I am sawing is limbs, some large and most small from an old filbert nut tree that I cut out a couple of years ago. It is good wood, but most of it is so small that it is not of much value. I wouldn't pay to burn gasoline in a truck to go get it, but I had to clean it up, so now it is here, and I am cleaning up what is there by sawing it and burning it is our wood cook stove. I can't cut very much at a time because for one thing it would stress the little electric chain saw too much. Also our dog, Rand, loves sticks, and he would carry everything off somewhere else if I would cut it all up. Then the house will only hold so much, so I cut 2 card board boxes full of it most days, and that works well. It is kind of funny, because after I am finished cutting he goes out there and cuts the smaller wood pieces with his teeth, and then he plays with the piece he cuts off. He is 4 years old and I don't think he will ever grow up out of his puppy stage, and that is okay because we love him the way he is. The last couple of winters I broke up sawdust board with my feet into little pieces and burned them in the stove, and that worked well, but now after 2 winters it is gone. We have just a little bit of real fir wood that we can burn when we need to do that, and eventually it will be gone.    :D :D
