Earthquake hits Central Philippines

Photos from Negros Oriental of some of the damage and suffering. Reports are that most of the people near the epicenter are too afraid to stay in their houses, so most are living outdoors in fields. Food and water is scarce, and people are hoarding what they have. Rice is selling for 220 to 250 pesos per kilo, and prices of cooking oil and sugar are also very inflated. The roads are too damaged for relief supply vehicles to get to the affected areas.

It is not easy to be in a situation like this. There was a time I was on the second floor building and the floor was producing sounds like cracking. It caused a phobia that everytime I can feel something is moving, I get panic because I am thinking it is an earthquake again.

Yes, Edeline, that is pretty scary! When you once experience that then it gives you more fear when you experience that again. I was near a major earthquake when I was about 13 years old. I was not afraid of it, as I was not afraid of anything back then. I just thought well, we had an earthquake and that was it. It did a lot of damage where we were at, and people were killed not far from us, and now I can't remember how many, but I think if I remember correctly the earthquake cause a land slide that covered everyone in this camp ground. We were supposed to be there when it happened, but my Dad decided to go the week before the earthquake!

Yes it can even cause a trauma specially to those people who have seen the buildings breaking. That was a strong movement of the ground. The students in the school also felt that they were swinging. I couldn't forget that day, the vehicles honking trying to pass quickly and as if they were on a race.


I was thinking the buildings will fall down. I thought that earthquake will just be a day but not, it was three or 4 days. It has a very strong impact on me also, when I was sitting on a bench and had someone beside me...he was rocking the bench and I felt that it was moving so I thought it was an earthquake again. I had nightmares due to that earthquake. It was really scary, after the earthquAKE it was very rainy..wow..

It was almost like the earthquake changed the weather, huh? That experience would be enough to bring on night mares. Then the after shocks days later would bring those fears back. The earthquake I was in was serious, but I was very young, and I felt like I had Mom and Dad to protect me, so I didn't worry about it, or think it was that big a deal, although it was very dangerous, and we would have been killed in it for sure had my Dad not changed his plans for us, when we were going into Yellowstone, because we were going to that very place where all those people were killed, and we did go there the week before the earthquake took place. The Lord was watching over us for sure!

Earthquake, Fire Incident and Landslide in Valencia City , Bukidnon. Please pray for us... This was the first time I experience strong Earthquake at dawn trice. I run outside with Girlie because we were afraid....

Yes, Crisi, I will pray for you, girlie, and the people involved in that earthquake. It is pretty scary, not knowing what will happen. You no doubt saw ms.sin's description of the earthquake that hit their place on Samar Island. She said it shook one building clear to the ground. It cracked their walls. Her mother was calling on the Lord which is very good. He is our present help in the time of trouble!

Years ago we had a volcano south of where we live. Some towns didn't get any fall out at all, and some got several inches of ash depending on which way the wind was blowing. I was taking care of some hives of bees. This was in 1979 or so, and where I was there was nothing, but at our home, our lawn got dusted, while where my sister lived they got several inches. It was the Mount St. Helen's erruption. I was working with a guy at the sawmill, who said, "The old devil is really mad!" He figured the anger of the devil had something to do with that. He was not a Christian at the time, but years later he became a born again Christian, and that made us all very happy.

The first earthquake we were at CDO in the hotel. My siblings were there thought some couple made a wild wild sex on the other room but it was no joke so we hide under the table and bed. Kids were in panic some people were running on ground.
Yesterday we didnt feel it coz i was in manila and my girls staying at CDO. So whatever these all means we all better be prepared.

Yes, Red, that would some very wild sex that would rock your room too, huh? I talked with my friend last evening on the telephone. I was able to do that because of the funeral I did not walk the doggies, and was in the house a little earlier. My friend and his filipina wife have a new house at Amlan, 19 Ks out from Dumaguete City. Her brother is still working on their place, being the caretaker, and staying there part of the time to keep the place safe. They built a garage, more retaining walls for more security, and her brother and his family have been staying there part of the time. They were there when the earthquake struck, and he said that it shook the house pretty good, and he ran outside scared. He said that he built the foundation sufficient for the 2 story house, but it is only one story and an attic, so the house was okay with no damages. My friend bought a Honda 125, and his filipina wife's brother is using it now instead of paying jeepney fares to travel between his house at Tanjey, city and Amlan.
