Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Christianity made me changed alot personality wise, the bad attitude somehow changed to good. When you become married living with your partner thats when "true colors" shine. Its a working process though you get to change for good when you walk with God day by day.

Yes, Red, the new birth in Christ is a life changing event. When a person is a new creature, new creation, in Christ Jesus all things become new. The old things, old life passes away, you think different thoughts, you have different desires, your habits change, the things you spend your times doing change. All this change is for the better. Stuart Hamblin was a drinker, partier, and a woman chaser, and then he gave his heart to the Lord. One song he wrote was, "It is no Secret What God can do, what He's done for others He'll do for you, With arms wide open He'll welcome you, It is not secret what God can do." John Wayne asked Stuart Hamblin, "Don't you miss your old life when you were drinking buddies and so on." Right now I can't remember his response, but it had something to do with having a much better life, serving Jesus. He didn't miss his old life, and he wrote a quite a few wonderful Christian songs. His wife appeared on one of Bill Gaither's shows on CD with some of the Billy Graham people, and others in the music business, and she talked a little bit about her husband's faith and love for God, also his transformation. :D :D :D :D

What is a Christian?

Postby purex » Sun Sep 02, 2012 9:43 pm

Question: "What is a Christian?"

Answer: A dictionary definition of a Christian would be something similar to “a person professing belief in Jesus as the Christ or in the religion based on the teachings of Jesus.” While this is a good starting point, like many dictionary definitions, it falls somewhat short of really communicating the biblical truth of what it means to be a Christian. The word “Christian” is used three times in the New Testament (Acts 11:26; 26:28; 1 Peter 4:16). Followers of Jesus Christ were first called “Christians” in Antioch (Acts 11:26) because their behavior, activity, and speech were like Christ. The word “Christian” literally means, “belonging to the party of Christ” or a “follower of Christ.”

Unfortunately over time, the word “Christian” has lost a great deal of its significance and is often used of someone who is religious or has high moral values but who may or may not be a true follower of Jesus Christ. Many people who do not believe and trust in Jesus Christ consider themselves Christians simply because they go to church or they live in a “Christian” nation. But going to church, serving those less fortunate than you, or being a good person does not make you a Christian. Going to church does not make you a Christian anymore than going to a garage makes you an automobile. Being a member of a church, attending services regularly, and giving to the work of the church does not make you a Christian.

The Bible teaches that the good works we do cannot make us acceptable to God. Titus 3:5 says, “He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.” So, a Christian is someone who has been born again by God (John 3:3; John 3:7; 1 Peter 1:23) and has put faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8 tells us that it is “…by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

A true Christian is a person who has put faith and trust in the person and work of Jesus Christ, including His death on the cross as payment for sins and His resurrection on the third day. John 1:12 tells us, “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” The mark of a true Christian is love for others and obedience to God’s Word (1 John 2:4, 10). A true Christian is indeed a child of God, a part of God’s true family, and one who has been given new life in Jesus Christ.

purex, that is some very good information about what a Christian is. It is true that many people believe that if they are from what is considered a Christian nation that makes them a Christian. Others trust in their religion or their church to make them Christians and take them to heaven. Some people think if they live a good life that makes them a Christian. Some people think that if they are from a Christian family or have Christain heritage that makes them a Christian. But as Jonathan Edwards preached, "God has no grandchildren," meaning that just because your parents are Christians that does not make you a Christian. It is an individual thing and everyone has to accept God's sacrifice for him/her self. :D :D

Christianity is a lifestyle. What we believe and how we think governs our actions. It is important what we believe because it is the way we live our lives.

Having a clear conscience and pure heart is important because it will always shows our lives. How do you think right now? How is your hearts?

There are times that we easily get angry because we do not like how our lives going on or how people responded to us. That is the human nature. Because of this, it is important to pray for good heart and thought. And how will we do this? The book of Psalms clearly states about how our hearts and thought being cleaned, is through the reading of the word of God. Read it today and thereafter.

You are right, purex, about Christianity being a lifestyle, a way of life. It is not religion that we have, but it is Jesus Christ in our hearts. A clear conscience and a pure heart is important. David in the Old Testiment Psalms talked about having those renewed within him by the Lord. A good heart and good thoughts which lead to actions is important. God's word does provide a light for our way, and helps us to be cleansed. :D :D

It changes my life and views in life when I become Christian. My thinking is more than just what is now but what would be about eternity. While on earth, we have the chance right now to develop our potential and character to be like Christ. Also I realize that Christianity is about loving, giving oneself for the good of others-showing genuine love of Christ. That what makes a difference, loving someone even we do not like to.

Yes, purex, when we become a Christian everything changes. We become new creatures in Christ Jesus. Old things pass away and all becomes new. The thinking of Christian is not what a worldly person is thinking. Our attitudes have changed. I had a Bible College teacher many years ago who talked a lot about living with eternal values in mind. The cares of this life and the deceitfulness of riches cause many people to be unfruitful for God. We do have cares in this life, and money is important, but eternal life is the most important. "What shall if profit a man or women if he or she shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul, or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul." Loving and giving one's self for the good of others is something many people do not understand. Well, the ungodly person can not understand God's things because they are hidden from him, because of his spiritual blindness. Loving someone when we do not want to is what Jesus told us to do, and it is not easy, unless we have God's Spirit in us, and then it might not be what we want to do, but we will do it for the sake of Jesus. What ever we have done to least of Christ's brethern we have done unto Him. The person who is not a Christian is even dead while they are living. That is hard to understand, but they have the sentence of death upon them, and they are living in spiritual darkness. As Christians we have eternal life now. It is like having the light turned on. Without God is to be separted from God, and that is spiritual death. We have either alive in Jesus, or we are dead in trespasses and sins. I am thankful of God sending His Son to die for me and you, and for Jesus giving Himself as a sacrifice for you and me! :D :D

The Holy Spirit that dwells in us will speak to us when we are doing wrong. We can feel guilt if there is something wrong. That is why, a true believer in Christ (Christian) will undergo corrections from God in any form if we disobey Him. That is one thing to know about Christianity. :P :P :P :P
An intimate relationship w/ God must b our highest priority. When U hav right or poor relationship w/Him,out of that relationshp flows everything else in our life. Thus, your relationship to Him determines how you live your life. It all relates to that

Yes, that is one of the jobs of the Holy Spirit is to convict us of sin. If we have a conscience that is tender before God we will repent quickly. Some people have violated their conscience until they can do anything without feeling conviction. God chastises (punishes) His own. He does that in love to get us to return to Him. He will deal gently with us if He can. If He had to be more severe with us, it is for our own good that we will repent and turn to God. Turn to God quickly while He is dealing with you, because later might be too late. It is good to be tender before God and have a desire to do what is right! :D :D
