Thank you, mystic for the pictures of the devestation of this storm. It is so sad, and we need to pray for the families of the dead ones as well as praying for those who have been displaced from their homes! In 1982 I was in a flash flood while working for an orchard operator. Our vehicles were stranded, so the owner sent vans to transport us. We strung a rope across the flowing water, and we crossed holding on to this rope as the water flowing was almost to our armpits! We were all safe though, and it was just a flood from a cloud burst that subsided in a relatively short time! Our hearts go out to all these people, and we are thankful for the ones who are safe! :D :D

Philippines is expected to experience an average of 20 typhoon every year.

Last year 2011, December, we experience Typhoon Sendong, and killed more than 1,500 people. Also here in Valencia City, the Pulangui River, its water level rose up and many houses were carried away by the water and lots of things destroyed. Also the houses were full of mud at that time.

We experienced trauma everytime there is heavy rain.

According to mayor, typhoon Pablo caused 1 Billion Pesos to Infrastructure, Farm lands etc.

There is one casually reported here in Valencia City.

Yes, Typhoon Sendong, killed a number of people really close to my friends' houses down in and around Amlan, Tanjay City, but no damage to my friends' new house, but her family had mud in their houses, and they had to wash all their clothing as it got mud all over. After such damage, you would be traumatized by heavy rain, because of the association. That is very sad. It is like a nightmare coming around again, huh? :(

Bit I wonder why you call the typhoon Pablo, while in all Italian news they call it Bopha

In the USA when we have terrible destructive storms they give them females names! I wonder why that is? A little humor here, huh? I have always wondered about that. Is that because men name those storms? It would be interesting to learn the reason for that happening! I'm not sure how the females feel about that!

Yes, mystic, Sir Michael's first post about this storm, called it Pablo in the Philippines, and interenationally known as Bopha. I too see news reports naming the storm Bopha. I don't know whether Bopha is the female name or Pablo? Anyway it is very sad about the devestation, the loss of property, and the loss of life. I heard that some fear it may come back around, and the same storm could hit the Philippines for a second time! Wouldn't that be sad! I think they have had enough! I hope and pray the people in the Philippines can have a break from this, and a chance to recuperate! :D :D

Been raining still every afternoon. Yesterday, I went home late because the rain did not stop until almost 6pm. I have been suffering trauma since last week. It is a strange thing that happens here in Valencia City. FOr over a decade, it has been the second time that the pulangui river overflow. Last year, it was Typhoon Sendong that landed in Mindanao that over a thousand died.

According to the news, over 500 people killed and over 800 still missing until now. Here in Valencia City, the damaged cause by Typhoon Pablo is over a billion pesos already.

The Philippines always has to give a typhoon their own name, and they do not use the international name. So BOPHA became Pablo. If you spoke of BOPHA to a Filipino, they would not recognize that name. But all are aware of Pablo.
I have read stories that there has never been a typhoon to pass through central Mindanao, especially in Compostela Valley, the central province that had the greatest loss of lives and also had tremendous crop damages, with over 70% of the banana plantations /crops destroyed, and most of the rice crop ruined.
But there was substantial damages in many provinces, and crisipicada has alluded to all the damages in her province of Bukidnon. One of my good friends in Cebu has told me of all the damages to the houses and crops and farm animals in her area. She is saddened because so many of the children there will not have a pleasant Christmas because their families have all lost so much. She asked me if there was anything that I could do to help the kids by sponsoring a party for them on Christmas day. I decided that would be a worthwhile cause to support. I can help some people sometimes, but I never have enough to help all of those who need it. She has an Australian boyfriend who she met through jaderune, and he is going to offer a little help, as well, to go along with the donation from jaderune. Even if he fails to donate, I think that there will still be enough from jaderune's donation to have a great party. There will be from 50 to 60 children, and of course, there will be lots of parents there with their children. There will be foods, games, and the kids will exchange gifts. The gifts will be small things, costing around 10 pesos each...no bicycles or ipads :D Things like that are Santa's responsibility!
She will take photos of the Christmas party, and I will post those online, and provide a link here so that everyone who wishes to see them, can.
