jadegil6 wrote:I don't cook much anymore because I live alone, and it is too much trouble to wash the dishes! hehehe But I can cook, and I have cooked a lot of American dishes in the past. I used to use the outdoor grill several times a week, and cook chicken, beef-brisket, and beef or pork ribs, all smothered in barbeque sauce.
These days I eat raw, uncooked vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green peppers, onions, spinach, lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes. I also eat canned salmon, tuna, sardines, and oysters. I stopped eating other meats about 6 years ago. I eat a lot of fruit everyday, depending upon what is in season and available or affordable at the stores. I rarely miss a day without eating bananas and apples. I love watermelon, cantalope, honeydew, peaches, nectarines, oranges, tangerines, pears, and apricots. I also eat whole grain wheat or oat, cold cereals everyday (dry or with water). I like to eat peanuts, pecans, walnuts, and almonds.
I eat steamed rice about once a month. That's right!!! If I do cook, I use my Wok, and cook stir-fry using olive oil. I usually cook veggies with shrimp, and use soy sauce or oyster sauce or teriyaki sauce. The veggies I use are usually broccoli, onions, celery, garlic, bell peppers, carrots, and mushrooms, sprinkled with garlic salt I will cook either some steamed rice or some noodles, and spoon the stirfry on top of the rice or noodles. And then I wash it all down with a twelve-pack of beer. hahaha No...I don't drink alcohol....only water. Not much of a recipe, but it is actually all very healthy.

Hahahaha... I think we have something in common, though not all the the fruits you mentioned are affordable here. I also buy fruits in season for the same reason. Bananas. papayas, pineapple and young coconuts (buko) are always in season. I do not stir fry vegies, instead steam it half cook or blanch, mix a little of oyster sauce (depends on your taste) ( put some sea food-like shrimps, fish fillet - optional), place it in a bowl then mix the olive oil when the vegies is no longer hot ( just warm enough for the mouth to chew.. Note: Olive oil becomes saturated fats when heated.....Steamed rice is our staple food, so that it is always present in every meal. But you can choose organic brown unpolished rice to get the best of nutrients. .happy cooking, Michael !

I am David, and Edwin is my middle name. I am 64 years old and have a wife and 3 grown children; identical twins born in 1970 and their younger sister born in 1974. The youngest is an RN, and the others are stay at home mothers. My hobby is enjoying music and playing musical instruments, piano and trombones. I haven't played my trombones for a while, but I need to get back onto my trombones. I have done a lot of things in the past, pastoring churches, associate pastor and teaching adult Sunday school classes in the past. We have Bible studies with our kids who are our neighbors here. I was involved for a few years in a family ranching operation where I grew up, and that is where we live now. I taught in the public schools for ten years. I kept honey bees for a few years, about 50 hives or so at the same time I was working at the saw mill, which I did for five years. My wife and I worked for a concession in the North Cascade National Park. Now we are pretty much retired living about 600 feet from our kids' house on a place that belonged to my great grandparents. Between us we have 3 horses, a number of goats, one milk cow, chickens, dogs, cats, and a community garden. We don't have running water in our house yet, but we probably will by this fall, depending on how things go. We are continually remodeling our home that I bought for next to nothing. I am capable of working, but presently I'm not with a number of projects that need attention. I may work in the future. I am strong and in good health, and with the Lord's help I hope that doesn't change.

Thank you! :)

I had a funny thing happen today. I am just finishing up with taking a jazz class online for my teaching certificate. I thought it was over, but today I was looking at the class online and discovered there was a final essay assigned. Am I ever glad that I was looking because I thought it was over last week. I spent most of today writing that final, and the instructor e-mailed me back that he got it, so I felt good about that.

As soon as that was over I helped our daughter, son-in-law, and her boyfriend plant the garden. We planted corn, beans, pease, radishes, beats, carots, potatoes, tomatoes, chocolate tomatoes, and ground cherries. It was fun. My wife, Carol, had been organizing things in a closet, and she was too tired. Our daughter sent me home with a small block of cheese, and cottage cheese, both from the milk cow. Our granddaughter wanted to watch a movie, DVD on this computer, so I will wait to play the piano until tomorrow. I brought our younger granddaughter's huge dog in to pet him in the house for a few minutes. He has never been taught anything, so I am trying to train him a little at a time, like teach him to sit and lay down, and I haven't gotten there with him yet. I think he is part St. Bernaird, at least that is what he looks like, and he is big, big, big. She loves him, and before we brought him here she kissed him on the face, cried, and told him that she loved him, so I had to bring him here. We love dogs, and now we have one of our own and two that belong to our granddaughters, a little one and a big one, and ours is medium size, German pincher. The little dog is a Shitzu.

Thank you, crisipicada, and it is really fun. Our daughter works really hard and we help her what we can. A neighbor came over after some milk because we get more than her calf or we can drink. He brought a number of tomato plants, and I think Dianne, our daughter, told me they were of the Little Girl variety. She joked that her neighbor would come pick her tomatoes later, and that she would come to check on her Little Girls periodically. It was funny. It is fun to help pull weeds and plant the garden. Dianne waters it. We have a row of strawberries too and that is fun. Dianne takes pride in the garden and it looks nice. When something needs to be done she tries to get all of us out in the garden, and it is a good time. :)
