"A WOMAN'S QUESTION"

Do you know you have asked for the costliest thing
Ever made by the hand above?
A woman's heart and a woman's life-
And a woman's wonderful love.

Do you know you have asked for the priceless thing
As a child might ask for a toy?
Demanding what others have died to win,
With the reckless dash of a boy.

You have written my lesson and duty out
Manlike, you have questioned me.
Now stand at the bars of a woman's soul
Until i shall question thee.

You require your mutton shall always be hot,
Your socks and your shirt be whole,
I require your heart be true as God's stars
And as pure as his heaven your soul

You require a cook for your mutton and beef,
I require a far greater thing.
A seamstress you're wanting for socks and shirts-
I look for a man and a king.

A king for the beautiful realm called HOME,
And a man that his Maker, God,
Shall look upon as He did on the first
And say, "It is very good."

I am fair and young, but the rose may fade,
From this soft young cheek one day;
Will you love me then 'mid the falling leaves,
As you did 'mong the blossoms of May?

Is your heart an ocean so strong and true,
I may launch my all on its tide?
A loving woman finds heaven or hell
On the day she is made a bride.

I require all things that are grand and true,
All things that a man should be;
If you give this all, I would stake my life
To be all you demand of me.

If you cannot be this, a laundress and cook
You can hire and little to pay;
But a woman's heart and a woman's life
Are not to be won that way.m&m :D

What a wonderful poem..,and that's true a woman's heart and woman's life is not easy to be own and being dictated by a newcomer in her life that she met unexpectedly or happened to be her "half of her heart".,But a woman's heart is more precious than any jewels on earth.,and it is not that easy to own a woman's heart that beats only for you and willing to give and share her whole life with you.

It is quite old fashioned but the meaning is practical and timeless. Man should meditate word for word how woman must be given full respect and love.

M & M, my response is still the same for this poem as it was when we first saw it in year 2009. What a beautiful poem, and thank you for sharing it with all of us here, and thank you for bringing it back from the archives! The value of a viruous woman is far above rubies. She can do anything, and she takes care of her husband and her kids. Her value can not even be measured with money. She is not a prostitute! She does not sell her body for sex, but she is for her husband and her children, and they rise up and call her blessed. She not only can not be bought, but she can not be replaced either. We have all seen abuse, where husbands and wives beat each other, and usually the husband beats the wife. Our youngest daughter will never be the same again after having an abusive husband, unless God heals her physically, mentally, and emotionally. He will spent about 10 years in Federal prison, but his sentence is nothing compared with what our daughter is going through, and probably will go through for the rest of her life, unless God undertakes. There is nothing worse than an abusive husband, and a brawling woman, and God is very displeased with both. Life is fragile and short; handle with care! :roll: :lol: :D

You are welcome, Sir Edwin. Because of my observations to married couples, I realized that I want to have a loving husband who is committed to marriage and to really take care of the relationship being married.

The secret of having a good relationship is to seek God first in life. IF we do, all will follow, having good relationship, happy life, pure conscience and most of all, having peace at heart. What a wonderful thing to happen if we seek Him first and live in obedience to Him.
