Philippine Charter Change or Cha-cha

Postby m&m » Thu Jul 01, 2010 5:19 am

Newly elected 2nd district of Pampanga Representive Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, former president of the Philippines for 9 & 1/2 years pass a resolution No. 8 today (first day of office) a resolution amending the Constitution 1987 of the Philippines. Accordingly, there are provisions of the stated constitution that are not applicable today. It has been year 2005 that Former President Arroyo wants to have charter change of the constitution. Some commentators that she still desire to be the prime minister of the Philippines.

Now, would you like to have charter change for the country? What if there will be? Is there hidden agenda why the former president wants to have amended the constitution?

Okay, our form of government is democratic. We have the right to vote whom we want to. As i can see, President Arroyo wants to change our constitution because she has been wanted to be the prime minister of the Philippines. I believe that our form of government she wanted is Parliamentary. If that is the case then there is a possibility that she will be the prime minister. As you can see now and hear the news sample of cases has been served against her. So if she become the prime minister, then she will be consider as the head of the country and cases against her could possibly of non effect. Well, these are just opinion and we have the right of speech. So feel free to share your ideas. :P :P

I am not against charter change. But as we can see now there is really hidden agenda :x :x :x :x . If officials are true with their intention for the country, it is a good one to have it changed. As for now, i don't want it have changed.

I agree with Madam Gloria's intention for charter change. She has no intention to be a Prime Minister, but there are articles and sections on our constitution that needs to be reformed esp. the socio economic part. Some of them are no longer applicable, not really, but needs changes. If we desire for this country to improve economically..and less pinoy to go abroad...charter change is a stepping stone for it.

I heard from the news before that one of the changes on the constitution is giving a privilege for foreigners to acquire property. Let's say in a corporation a foreigner can own 50% and a Filipino 50%. In the current constitution, a foreigner is allowed only up to 40%. So there will be more investors coming in if that would be implented.

That is interesting Red. I think the percentage would have to be much higher to make a significant difference to the investment. There would also need to be fairer application of the law. I have been reading on the Living In Cebu forum about the demolition of resorts on Bantaayan Island for allegedly building too near the foreshore. It sounds as if the buildings were not too near when built, but subsequent erosion of the beach has brought the water nearer to the buildings. It is alleged that somebody with powerful connections is using the Government Department responsible for the demolition to remove the existing resorts so they can then move in and build a bigger resort.

The Philippines could attract a lot of foreign investment, but there does not seem to be the will to make the necessary changes. This is a shame as investment would create a huge number of jobs for the local population. Still even a small step must be welcomed with a hope of bigger things to come.

For me, we don't need to change the Philippine Constitution..coz no matter how we change the constitution if the elected/appointed officials in the highest government position have their own personal interest..i think it doesn't make sense...

instead..those corrupt government officials are the who should change..that's why, it is a big challenge for the newly elected Pres. of the Philippine Republic on how he would deal with them..and what are his steps to make his advocacy on anti-corruption come to reality.. :D :D :D

Corruption has become a tradition in politics that's hard habit to quit. Let's say P-Noy is non corrupt and honest...but what about those other gov't officials around him?
