we experience earthquake lately. last monday, at dawn on or about 3am, we experience earthquake and it is very devastating. the building cracked and almost fall in the ground.

while i was in the office doing some paper work, the computer table and other papers filed fall on the ground. people around get out from restaurants, offices and ran outside.

last night again, on or about 10pm, there was an earthquake again. i feel that the active volcano 12 kilometers away from work or 2 kilometers away from my sister's house has the posibility to erupt. no report yet when it will erupt but i guess it is one of the signs it will erupt.

Fire safety - Identifying Fire Hazards and Fire Safety Tips during and after an earthquake. natural disaster occur in every country every year that it is considered a common occurence. one devastating natural disaster is an earthquake. it can produce traumatic and destructive effects such as collapse of buildings and properties and is a possible cause of fire breakouts. authorities is encouraging everybody to be well informed on how to remain safe and prevent accidents from happening in case of an earthquake occuring.

Having fire preventive devices such as fire extinguishers and smoke alarms are not enough to keep you safe in fire breakouts cause by an earthquake. you should be able to determine the possible causes to put it out safely. you can greatly reduce your chances of becoming injurred or trapped in a fire outbreak by identifying possible hazards and following some essential tips in an earthquake situaltion.

FIRE HAZARDS DURING AND AFTER EARTHQUAKE;

1. Furniture, appliance and household products can fall, shift and spill.

2. Pools of water can be electrically charged.

3. Leaking gas lines and damaged propane containers can explode or ignite.

4. Flammable liquids like gasoline and pait thinner may have spilled.

5. Frayed and damaged electrical cords could create an electrical fire hazard.

6. Combustible liquids can be exposed to heat sources.

7. Appliances may emit smoke and sparks after damage during the earhtquake.

8. Overloaded power cords can ignite and cause a fire.

9. Kitchen oven range used to heat your home can be a source of toxic fumes and is a fire hazard.

10. Wirings and exposed outlets can present a life safety hazard.

11. Fire safety tips in case of an eartquake;

12. BE careful and assume that all the wires inside your home are electrically charged.

13. Be observant and smell gas leaks. if you can smell it, immediately leave the house and leave your doors open.

14. After the earthquake, have a licensed electrician check and repair damages electriocal wirings in your home.

15. For gas safety, never strike a match in any part of th ehouse. Even a simple spark can cause an explosion.

16. Some smoke alarms may be dependent on the power supply and could not be working during a power outage. check if it has a back-up battery system and make sure to install a new battery at least once a year.

17. if a fire hydrant is near your home, be sure to always keep it away from debris for easy access by the fire department.

18. use alternate heaters that have tip switches designed to automatically turn off when it is tipped over.

To lessen the chances of becoming a fire caualty in an eathquake, it is crucial to identify potential hazards in your home. Make the necessary precautions in everything you do inside your home after experiencing an earthquake. Being mindful of these essential tips can possibly make a difference and save your life.

Severe earthquakes are very devestating. Some places where buildings are not built as stongly can be worse, although you can't build strong enough for a severe earthquake. You have the immediate situation where people's lives are lost and their property is destroyed. There is an immediate devestation. Then there is the time that people gather what they can from the ruins and try to put their lives back together. People lose pictures and person items that can never be replaced, and that is very sad. Then after being reduced to having nothing they need shelter, clothing, and food. After that they have to work for years to rebuild, and some never gain what they had before. They always live with the memories of the devestation. Earthquakes are very sad.

Last week again, we experience earthquake for the third time. We are 5 kilometers away from an active volcano from city proper and 2 kilometers away from my sister's house where i spend weekdays. I am so worried about this circumstances.

Another thing happen was a conflagration happen at Valencia City. At dawn, OOA of 11 0100H June 2001, there was a fire incident happen. Initial investigation states that the cause of the said incident was unplugged cellphone explode. The fire was contained before it was transferred to other buildings nearby. Also, fire walls help a lot so that the fire wont get too far. But sad to say that there is only one exit to the place happened and there were 5 people died because they were trapped by fire.The other one went back to the house to get his motorcycle but was not able to go out from the place. This is the first time that 5 people died of the fire incident in the city.

Just reminder, do not attempt to return back to your place when you are in fire incident. If you are trap, use wet clothes to cover you. Crawl when there is smoke, remember that below your knee is a fresh oxygen so you can breathe whenever you are in the room with smoke.

Again, PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE, in other words, PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN PUTTING OUT THE RAGING FIRE.

Sorry for the sadness, Crisi! That is very good information you gave about prevention being better than the cure, and also don't return to a fire, or go inside a burning building, as well as the oxygen being near the floor, also using wet clothes to cover!

After earthquake, here comes typhoon again. Oh, sorry to say that Central Mindanao is affected especially in cotabato. Please pray for us here. Thanks

City of Valencia experienced a 5.2 intensity level of earthquake yesterday, November 7, 2011 at 6 o'clock in the evening. One of the malls in the city proper incurred a lot of damage especially on their kitchen utensils at the fifth floor. When that happened, I was at home, try to fix dried wash clothes. Unfortunately, I was almost fell down because I ran to mama's room since she was in the bathroom. I really feel the earthquake. Since then, I got sick and trauma and now absent from work.

I had a good laugh at myself about 3 years ago...

While living in the PI, I was disturbed by the building systems used by mostly the poor. The vast majority of homes that are permanent are hollow block construction. I felt that I could design a better way.

What I came up with was thinly cast concrete. Nobody on earth does it like this. But I did the math, I worried for years, and then I decided to build the house after I was able to convince several other engineers that my math was accurate.

I figured that my building could take a 8.5 earthquake. That would be a lateral load greater than one G or if you tipped my house on it's side and held it by it's footing it would not fall apart.

During construction, before I actually installed any doors, just the walls and 3 floors were up, we had a 6.1 quake. I was sitting at a table on the first floor, hearing the quake, feeling the shaking, I thought to myself, this is not a great quake, so I prepared to ride it out.

Down the hall I had left my solid front door leaning up against the wall, waiting for installation, and the quake tipped it over so it fell flat on the floor and made a Very LOUD BANG!... I was out of the house in a SHOT! So much for math... Standing out in the yard with my neighbors, who had told me several times "nobody does it like that" and after they saw me run out of the building, I was asked "where is your calculator now?"!!!!
