As it turned out, Philippine Independence Day was also the Global Day of Prayer. It began in 2000, and in only a few years has spread to more than 200 nations as millions of Christians gather to pray together. There is a 90 day period of time following the Global Day of Prayer that Christians are encouraged to go out into their communities, and help the poor in a season of service.
