A Very Sad Story

Postby Edwin » Wed Dec 15, 2010 5:18 pm

We have a woman from one of our closest towns down off our hill that is in a terrible situation. There is a 38 year old woman who was nearly starving and would have died in Mexico if it were not for an American family who adopted her when she was 5 months old. They were led to believe because they adoped her at this young age, and they were US citizens, she would automatically be a US citizen. People who are familiar with immigration laws know this not to be true, but these people didn't.

She grew up, married a guy in Omak, Washington, had a family of 2 sons, and they were a happy family until she made one terrible mistake. She stole another lady's purse, and I think she did it to get perscription drugs that were in the purse.

She was arrested, sent to jail and served 2 years for the her act of theft. As she was released the immigration officials were there to pick her up and transport her to the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, and she is still there. She has lost her case with the immigration, and is due to be deported to Mexico soon. Her attorney said that he may file a motion to reopen the case, but it is up to her.

Now I know what she did was wrong, but she served 2 years for the act. She has been in this country growing up in her adoptive family, and having her own husband and sons, 10 and 13 years old, and now she is about to be deported to a country where she was born, but she never lived there. She has no family there, no relatives, will have no money, and she does not speak the language. Mexico can be a dangerous country in some areas because of drug traffic. I was really saddened that this judge ruled to send her back to Mexico, and under the circumstances it seems heartless. I hope that her lawyer will reopen her case, and I hope she can get a more humane judgement. That is my idea of it, and it made me feel really badly for her, her husband who is out of work presently, and her boys who cry for her to return home. This seems like a pretty hard hearted, harsh judgement to pronounce on her. :( :( :( :(

It is a sad case indeed... There are a lot of illegal immigrants in this country and because we have such an out of control problem with them it affects cases like this. Common sense tells us this is not the right thing for the judge to do but who knows what his agenda is. It is a sad fact in this day and age that people that should not be in this country are still here and people that should stay are deported.

Is there anything we in the states can do to help this woman out and change the judges mind? Let me know what and if I can do anything and I will. Send a letter, make a phone call or even drive by and slap this judge upside the head... I'm game.

Thank you, Brat4300, I wish I knew. I just read it in our local newspaper today, and it made me very sad to think a person had been here since she was 5 months old, her family thinking she was a citizen because a citizen adopted her at that age, and now she is on the verge of being deported, separated from her husband and two sons, sent to a county where she knows no one, does not know the language, and will probably not have enough money to get by.

The news article suggested that the attorney might reopen the case, if she is in agreement, and I hope it goes well for them. Thanks for the offer, and I will let you know if I hear about anything any of us can do. Thank you!!!! :) :) :) :)

This story was in our local newspaper again, and it is a sad story. I know that woman should not have stolen the purse, but she is paying a terrrible price. It seems she took the purse because she wanted the medications that were in it. She had never done anything wrong before in her life. It seems that it was a one time thing. She got a pretty heavy jail sentence, served it, and as she was being released the border/customs people picked her up and put her in detention for being deported. She is a Mexican, born in Mexico, but she was adoped as an infant with her brother, brought to the US, and grew up thinking she was a US citizen. Then when she got out of jail, she learned that her adoptive parents never took the trouble to get her citizenship cleared up. Her full blood brother they did get his citizenship taken care of, and the interesting thing is that he worked as part of the border patrol for the Mexican US border. They lady has no family in Mexico, she knows no one down there, she has not been there since she was an infant, and the border/customs people are getting ready to drop her off down there in a foreign county where she does not even know the language, has no family there, no relatives, no friends, but she is a Mexican Citizen and that is why they are getting ready to deport her, because she has been here illegally since she was a baby. She has a husband and two adolescent sons here in our community. They say she is likely to be in detention in Tacoma, Washington for at least another year while her deportation sentence is being appealed. She talks with her husband and sons almost every night. One ray of hope for her is that she was a vitim of abuse at one time in California, and a Sheriff there is going to try to help her, because of her being a formerly abused victim. The reason her picture and story was in the newspaper is that our local Bank of America is setting up a fund for her legal costs as they are escalating. Please pray for this poor soul that the Lord will help her, and that she will not get dumped in a foreign country without her husband and her children, and not knowing the language or knowing anyone, it would likely be maybe even a hostile environment for her to be placed into.
