When we were at the Fall Kickoff at the church Saturday evening, just before we left lightening started striking in the distance. One of our friends said that we better get home because of the lightening storm, but that didn't make much sense to me, because what does a lightening storm in the distance hurt? That storm started fires all around us, but they didn't start burning much until the next day. On the way up the hill towards our house I told Carol I thought I could see fires buring. When we got up on top at our house's elevation we could see fires. As we drove it looked like they were different places, my cousin's place, my brother's place, another cousin's place, and a neighbor's place. It turned out that a fire started across a huge river, jumped the river, and was burning on one of our neighbor's places. I think some of the fires were smoldering until they ignited, and now we have fires burning all around us, but most of them are a number of miles away, and the wind is blowing the opposite direction where the closest fire is to us, so it seems we are pretty safe!
