Every year, the Bureau of Fire Protection in observance of Fire Prevention Month, will hold activities and contest. There will be submissions also from different stations. One of this is photography. At this years theme “Sunog at sakuna paghandaan, kalikasan ay pangalagaan nang matamasa ang pag-unlad ng bayan.” in english, Be ready for any fire incidents or emergencies, nature must be taken cared of so that development will be obtained/attained.

I would like to ask the members what would be the nice picture or photography to have that will fit the them.

Thank you.

Crisi, have your niece and nephew do the stop, drop, and roll, and take pictures of them doing that. Just one idea. Have then get the fire fighting tools out, even dressed in the fire fighting suits if possible, and take pictures of them. Maybe get out the garden hose. Take pictures of them pulling weeds next to the house. I will add more later when I think of more ideas. Anyone else here on this forum have any ideas about this? :D :D

Maybe pics of installing smoke detectors and/or home fire extinguishers. And like Edwin suggested, removing dead vegetation from near a building.

Also maybe pictures of removing combustables from inside the house. Greasy rags, oil and gasoline cans, etc. Pictures also at the electric breaker box, of removing objects from in front of it. Keeping the cooking stove cleared of things that might catch fire. Having baking soda handy to throw on grease fires on top the stove. Pictures of safety in electrical outlet and extension chords. Also if you could get a picture somehow of electrical light bulbs with limited wattage, for fire safety. Most lamps have a limit of 60 or 75 watts. Sir Michael had some really good ideas too! :D :D

Another idea is if you could take pictures that would emphasize kids not playing with matches. My older brother's son and a friend of his were playing with matches, and they burned down a large barn that my grandparents used for milking cows. My brother was moving out of a house, and I think they had most of their things moved out, but not everthing, and the house burned completely. They suspect that a fire might have been left in the wood heating stove afterwhich everyone left, and it was not safe. My grandfather built that house also. Where we lived before, just a little ways from our house, between our house and the school house, a tree fell on the power lines, and started a fire. I happened to wake up to go to the bathroom, looked out the window, and saw the fire. It was in the middle of the night, and I started getting people out of bed, and the fire was put out by day light. Careless smoking also causes fires. People not taking precautions with their clothing can have their clothing catch on fire, and then is when they need to stop, drop, and roll, instead of running. Rolling smothers the fire, but running fans it! :D :D

I have a couple more ideas for you, Crisi. In this part of the country anyway people in the past have put hay into barns that was not cured/dried enough, and spontaneous combustion has caused the hay to heat until it burst into flames and burned barns and hay. When my older brother worked on a large ranch in Montana in the 1950s he said that their outside hay stacks would be heated from that, and as soon as they opened those hay stacks, like pulling bales or pitching some of the hay, it would immediately burst into flames. It wasn't a problem for them because they knew it was going to happen, and they were prepared for that. Where I worked for a number of years at the sawmill they stored a lot of sawdust outside, and often that saw dust would catch fire for the same reason. If you could take pictures of those kinds of things and then caption or label them a potential fire starters that might work.

Also in this part of the country space heaters for construction jobs in the fall, winter, or spring, can be dangerous as there is a lot of fire belching out from the propane heaters. Anyone who washes car, motorcycle, or truck parts with gasoline, which we always did, risks a possible fire, because all it takes is a spark, and you have a fire, and with gasoline it could be an explosion.

One time when I was 24 years old, I poured a little bit of gasoline onto leaves I was burning. The fire followed the gasoline fumes right up to the mouth of the gasoline can, and was burning in the mouth of the gasoline can, and that scared me to death, and I felt very lucky, and I was protected from the Lord from anything really bad happening.

Using too high wattage of bulbs in a heat lamp, which I am doing right now, but please don't tell anyone, and actually that could start a fire. It is too hot all the time for the heat lamp that I have the bulb screwed into, and the bulbs burn out often because I need a better heat lamp shield, or a lower wattage bulb.

When starting a fire in a wood cook stove or wood heating stove it is always importnat to exercise caution, and never allow your clothing to be over an open flame. My brother has filled gasoline tanks with water and then welded them, but that is even dangerous from what I understand. Many times we do take some risks, but it is important to be as carefull as possible.

Vehicles without proper exhaust systems can be dangerous for starting grass or forest fires. :D :D

I don't know if you have lightening storms in the Philippines, but where we lived for 10 years we had quite a few fires that were caused from lightening storms, when the lightening struck a tree and started a fire.

We had one employee who was disgruntled with her life many times, and she had a hard time getting along with other people. She went camping, and decided to burn her journal. She was a good friend of ours, and we would have been happy to have allowed her to burn her journal in our wood heating stove, but she burned it in a make shift camp fire. She thought she had the fire put out, walked away for a while, and when she returned the forest was blazing with fire. She did the best she could, but it was too late to save the forest, and it burned a lot of it, as well as causing the necessity of evacuations. The damages from that fire that she caused was into the millions of dollars. She was facing prison time over that one, but I think she got something worked out since she did not maliciously start the fire.

People in our area in the past have caused fires when their fire barrel got away from them, and that has burned homes, leaving them liable. Some burn noxious weeds, and normally that is a good thing, but not when there is a fire danger, which happens sometimes, when someone will burn during a time that there is a burning ban in effect. :D :D

We also have people whom we call firebugs. They get a thrill out of seeing fires burn, and they will set fires just to see them burn. In the past there have been people who were fire fighters who started fires so that they would receive money for putting out those fires.

Bearings on tractors and combines that have overheated have caused fires as well. :D :D

After Physical Fitness Test yesterday, we had the chance to visit my comrade's place. What a wonderful vacation house with nice swimming pool. It was so relaxing seeing the green plants while we were at the top of his house. With all white colors combination with glass as the door etc. I can't imagine how it was made. I took photos and I feel so relax and happy with green and white. Because green is my favorite color combination with sparkle white. And it is magical like in the forest. :D :D :D :D

You might like the island of Lanzarote in the Atlantic. The authorities have kept the buildings mainly low rise, painted white and usually with blue door and window frames. Sometimes green is used instead of blue. Sadly some of the more recent developments are painted white, but omit the traditional coloured frames.
