My son

Postby Smiley » Tue Jul 02, 2013 12:58 pm

4 days ago (Sat morning),while at work,I got the type of phone call that all parents dread. My youngest child had suffered a seizure and was being taken to the hospital by ambulance.
My son Nathan,is severely autistic and has never been able to speak,he is however,a very loving and charming person who touches the life of everyone who knows him.
Nathan is very big and very active,he loves to help.He is about 6'6" and very slim and strong.
Nathan has not regained consciousness, actually he is being kept under by sedation at the moment.A ventilator is breathing for him and he is being tube fed.During the big seizure he choked on vomit and it appears that some got into his lungs. As a result he has some acid burns in his lungs and appears to be developing pneumonia.
If any of you could throw a prayer or two his way I would be very grateful.

Yes, Smiley I will pray for your son. We all need prayer, and at times it seems we need more urgent prayer. I have people I pray for every day, people whom I think need the Lord to help them in their lives. We have a grandson whom we raised much of his growing up life, but his mother would take him away from us periodically, and it was a friendly thing, but times when he would go back with his mother his life would become very unstable. Now he has carried some of his problems into adulthood, and he needs prayer. Also his baby son is in a very percarious situation with his life, we are praying desperately for him. We want both of them to have their lives touched and changed by the Lord. Then there are people on this forum and elsewhere who need the Lord's help in their lives. Our youngest daughter came out of a near death situation with an abusive husband, and she has lingering problems as a result of that. She is very generous; we have helped her a lot, and now she is helping us in a big way, and we are thanking the Lord for that. We are praying for her and her two daughters as well, who among other things need to realize their need of God in their lives. They acknowledge that, but more than acknowledgement is needed! As the old, Negro Spiritual goes, we are all "Stand'n in the Need of Prayer." Yes, Smiley I will pray along with others on this forum! :D :D

Thank you all very much.Nathans situation has become graver today. His lungs are producing a thick secretion that he is having trouble with. The antibiotics do not appear to be effective. The ventilator is continuing to do his breathing for him but his oxygen levels are not what they should be.This is going to be a long night.I doubt that I will be going to work tomorrow.

Yes, Smiley, we will continue to pray for Nathan. We need to be here for each other in prayer when that is needed. We need to pray just like the person is our own son or daughter that we are praying for. Even when it seems like there is not much hope, there is hope in the Lord as we look to Him in prayer. We will pray for you too, Smiley that the Lord will be with you, and give you courage in this trial that you have. :D :D

Well;they tried to ease Nathan off of the ventilator to see if he could breathe on his own,had to put him back on full assistance. His fever has diminished a little bit and his lungs are starting to clear somewhat. He is having a little more tremor activity which troubles me a lot.Thats about it I guess. Thank you all for your thoughts.

I started to write a while earlier, but Carol called supper, and when she does that I have to drop and run! Anyway thank you Smiley for updating us, and keeping us informed. I'm happy some things are looking better, seeing some improvements, and we need to pray about the concerns! I pray the Lord will comfort your heart, and be near to your son! :D :D

It has now been 7 days in the ICU. I have been massaging his hands and feet because they have been swelling a lot.A specialist is working everyday to reduce the crap in Nathans lungs. He is still unable to breathe on his own but I am starting to be more confident that he will.
His two older sisters are being very dedicated and protective of him. They make me very proud.
