In my opinion MARRIAGE IS A GIFT, not from man but from God. God ordained the first marriage in Eden when He created Adam and Eve, told them to go and replenish the earth, subdue it. In the beginning God knows that man needs a partner. Adam felt lonely even with all the creations before him, with all the animals around him in pairs. God saw that there was something lacking in him that He fully understood.
Genesis 2:18 -The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.
20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.
And God took a rib from Adam and made it into a woman, Eve.
Genesis 2:21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh.
Eve was God's gift to Adam. When Adam saw the gift of God, he must have exclaimed... WOW, this is it! ..my suitable partner !
Genesis 2:23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of man."
How thankful was Adam when God presented Eve to him. This is God's desire from the beginning, that man will treasure marriage as a gift from Him, holy and divine.
If we Consider God's Wisdom in choosing a partner, when we find one, thus it becomes a gift. AND WE MUST CONTINUE TO DWELL IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD TO MAKE MARRIAGE WORK, THAT EACH PARTNER WILL REGARD THEIR MARRIAGE BED SACRED AND DIVINE. Genesis 2:24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
25." The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame."
God addressed Adam and Eve as "man and his wife", after He gave Eve to Adam. Then the first marriage was ordained in the garden of Eden, by no other than the source of the gift of marriage.
In many cases, most men and women took for granted God's participation in entering into marriage. So that it became an accomplishment rather than a gift. Yes, it is important that we must work out our marriage, but we need God's Wisdom to bring the best in us.
GOD SHOULD BE THE CENTER OF OUR MARRIAGE. OUT OF GOD'S PRESENCE, MARRIAGE IS JUST A PIECE OF PAPER, ANOTHER BROKEN VOW.
