Woman Taken In Adultery

Postby Edwin » Mon Jul 02, 2012 12:38 am

Our message this morning in our Free Methodist Church that we attend was about the woman taken in adultery. The Scribes and Pharisees that brought the woman to Jesus were not really trying to uphold the law of Moses, but they were trying to trap Jesus. Deuteronomy 22:22; says that if a man has sex with another man's wife, the man and the woman both are to be put to death. Part of the problem here is that only woman was brought for judgement, but why did they not bring the man, if they were going to be consistent with Moses' law?

What was Jesus to do? If He said stone her according to the law, where was His mercy. If He said save her, He would be guilty of violating the law.

There is a good chance that the woman had no clothes on, as they caught her in the very act, and forced her to come.

What did Jesus write in the sand? Was it the sins of the men standing before Him?

When Jesus stood up they were all gone. Jesus asked the woman. Where are your accusers? Has no man condemned you? She answered, "No man Lord." Jesus said neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.

Forgiveness is not based on repentance. The woman had not repented when Jesus forgave her. Because of forgiveness, we can repent. Consistency is important. If the woman was brought, the man also should have been brought for judgement. Jesus was declaring His Saving Grace. Jesus was demonstrating forgiveness and the freedom from sin. :D :D :D :D

So even if we dont ask for forgiveness , that does mean we are forgiven and doing it of sinning no more?
Im just curious here in the Bible the people in middle east practices polygamy having many wives. So they commit sin, isnt it?

I never thought of this, Red, before hearing that preacher give his sermon yesterday. This woman was taken in the very act, dragged to where Jesus was, probably just as she was when she was in the act. She was no doubt frightened to death, thinking they were going to kill her. She was there against her will. She no doubt was very sorry, but had not expressed that. She didn't say, "I am sorry." But Jesus said, "Neither do I comdemn you, go and sin no more." So basiscally Jesus pronounced that He did not comdemn the woman to her, and told her not to sin anymore. According to John's teaching we are to confess our sins, and He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. So Jesus told the woman, "I don't comdemn you, go and don't sin anymore!" :D :D :D :D

So i guess the act of changing from bad to good and being humble to admit that you have sinned is understood that God has forgiven you. I know God loves all His children so when one is lost and back to Him for good, God will accept him/her with open arms. Thats very sweet.

Yes, Red, more than one place where Jesus was dealing with people He told them "Go and sin no more." In one case Jesus told a person that He had healed, "Go and sin no more lest a worse thing come upon you." It is important to God that we go and sin no more. God will accept with open arms, and yes, that is sweet! There is a connection between sin and sickness, but not everyone who is sick has sinned, but for some, they are sick because they have sinned. All sickness is a result of sin, but sometimes it is Adam and Eve's sin, and not necessarily the fault of the person who is sick. God loves the repentant sinner! :D :D :D :D
