Blue Moon

Have you ever heard the expression, "once in a blue moon?" I knew it meant that it didn't happen very often, but I didn't know about its origin. Carol was telling me that this is a rare year and month in which we will have two full moons! I think it is the second full moon, correct me if I am wrong, that is referred to as the "blue moon!" This will not happen again until 2015! Now once in a blue moon will have more meaning, and I guess it means once in three years, I don't know?

You got it! A blue moon is the second full moon to happen in a single calendar month. Not a very common occurrence.Sort of like "a month of Sundays"

Yes, Smiley, I have heard that expression all of my life, and I didn't know its association with the second full moon of the month that seldom happens.
