Western Culture

Postby crisipicada » Mon Feb 22, 2010 7:47 am

This is the way for the Filipinas/Filipinos to understand western culture. Therefore anyone is invited to share about western culture. I may contribute some i learn, like i always heard that western people are materialistic. Not only that, accordingly, they are egoistic and proud. They treated the 3rd world countries with discrimination. Is anything positive you can share about them?

Wow - sweeping statements. I started to type in some generalisations, but then stopped. So many can be applied to people everywhere and it is just a matter of degree. Deep down at the basic level are we different?

I have yet to experience the Philippines and based on what I have read I can think of only one that is based on peer pressure and not through fear of getting caught. That is punctuality. To be late is considered bad manners.

The Police tend not to be overtly corrupt, but is that through fear of getting caught or a genuine difference in culture?

Most people are interested in having nice possessions and wanting to better themselves, (I know some religious bodies/faiths forsake worldly goods). If I have more opportunity and take it, does that make me materialistic.

I look forward to the next couple of weeks in the Philippines as an education and may revisit this post then.

I have observed, western people are talkative. They want to talk and talk. I don't know, maybe the person i will talk soon will be interested in me because i don't talk a lot. I am a quiet type of person. Maybe i am more a listener than a talker. :D :D :D
An intimate relationship w/ God must b our highest priority. When U hav right or poor relationship w/Him,out of that relationshp flows everything else in our life. Thus, your relationship to Him determines how you live your life. It all relates to that

I don't think this is a 'western' trait. You get talkers and listeners everywhere. I enjoy writing, but in person I am quiet (I can get noisy after a couple of beers  )

Oh Yes.. Though not so much now I am old (er  ). When I was younger I had the most amazing ability to make a complete fool of myself in front of a girl I fancied.
