I am not much of an explorer. It is just chance that in chasing my passion for photographing old steam engines I have visited Bacolod, as Negros was the main centre for narrow gauge railways servicing the sugar cane industry. The other area that used narrow gauge railways to bring the sugar cane to the mills was Pampagna on Luzon, I do not think there is much left there. Though sugar cane is grown elsewhere in the Philippines the use of railways to take the cane to the mill was not so popular.

I do enjoy travel and hope to visit Java, Indonesia, next year or the year after. It is home to a number of narrow gauge sugar cane railways. :D

Hi Angel

That was a tricky one. Have you been to Camaguin? It is an island I want to visit. I would never have solved the mystery without your clue and help from Google. :geek: I think it is the sunken cemetery on Camaguin Island.

hi Chas!
the picture was taken in Dumaguete.
Sisters of St Paul Statue in Dumaguete, often called the "Sisters Statue" Seven Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres, set sail from Saigon and arrived in Dumaguete.

Sakto.............................. Correct................. It is on the promenade in Dumaguete.

I was beginning to think that Cheryz and Angel were related as you both seemed to be in Manila at the same time (unless there is another Mall of Asia in another city), but maybe not in view of Angel's question about Dumaguete.

Dumaguete was the only place I have stayed in the Philippines where I had cockroaches in the room. To be more exact in the CR. The hotel was a dump that had seen better days. I was hoping for one of the nicer rooms that looked out to sea, but I was in a ground floor room at the back. There was a very nice coffee shop in Dumaguete, not one of the big chains like Bos or Starbucks.

I was not long in Dumaguete, just long enough to visit the sugar cane railway at Bais. :D
