Hanging Coffins 2.JPG

And the chair is used for??????

hi chas! ill search it in google hehehe
SAGADA, Echo Valley :D

These coffins are carved by the elderly before they die; if they are too ill or weak their son or other close relative will do it for them. This ritual involves pushing the bodies into the tight spaces of the coffins, and often bones are cracked and broken as the process is completed. …

The families who cannot afford a coffin use a chair, instead. The recently diseased is tied to a chair, attends an all night wake, and then is lowered down from the top of the cliff by rope. 8-)

Correct. Well done Cheryz.

Thanks for the information about the chair, I did not know that. I knew the bodies were placed in the coffins in the foetal position.

Where is it?

Guess right, and you win a pine float.

What is a 'pine float'?

By the way, the photo is of the Biliran bridge between Leyte and Biliran.

Yes, that is correct Chas. You WIN!!!!

A pine float is a glass of water and a toothpick.
Just ask a waitress at any restaurant, and they will be happy to provide your prize.

ENJOY!!!

Here is one for the Bacolod detectives to track down using Google. I have run out of Philippine photos :D What is the name of this building? It is in a small country that Sir Stamford Raffles made famous. This country is in the same time zone as the Philippines and is a financial centre.

Tip for those visiting the building. Don't pay to use the public viewing gallery, dress smartly and just say you want to go and use the bar on the top floor. Use the money you saved to buy a drink and enjoy the view (best seen at night).

Ok - as requested. Outside which building in Bacolod was this photograph taken?

I have never lived in the Philippines. I do like Bacolod and were I to end up living in the Philippines, then Bacolod would be on my list of possible options. I know about 20 Visayan words and between 5 and 10 Tagalog words. I used to know more, but unfortunately I forget them too easily.

I downloaded an 'app' to learn Tagalog onto my tablet. It's advantage was that it was free and contained sound so you could get the correct pronunciation. It was prepared for the US Army, so as well as general phrases I could learn the Tagalog for such useful phrases as 'Surrender, put down your guns', and 'Do not move, you are standing in a minefield'.
