We also have a saying, "Slow boat to China," and I am not sure where that came from, but if a person could take a boat to the Philippines it would be a very slow trip!    I also think it would be more expensive than flying as well.

I second this old saying. When I was a kid diggin holes in the yard for fun they would tell me to not dig to far or I'll dig all the way to China. The Philippines is completely on the other side of the world from me also. I live in central time and I'm 13 hours behind my fiance. I'm already used to the time difference and me working night shift puts us on almost the same time frame anyways.

Working that shift is perfect for you to match Philippine time. You probably wouldn't even suffer jetlag. :)

I spent 3 weeks over there from June 29 til July 18 and the only jetlag I had was after getting back home because I went straight to work that night without even getting a nap. I slept a good 6 hours the next day tho, lol.

Our country shouldn't be judge like that by people coz of that incident only..yes, we can't deny the fact that there were lives involved..but, can't we consider that there are far many worst countries out there who does more horrible crimes?..

do to make it up for them?..you think they will listen to any explanations?..well if they do, that would be better..but if they don't..just let them be..i only hope that they will become more open-minded and try to think that nobody likes that incident.

You are right, ChayChay. :) Mexico has an ongoing problem right now that involves drug lords, corrupt police, and gangs. The Mexican border as I understand it right now is a very dangerous area for anyone.

Recently we had the hostage crisis then we had abandoned babies or aborted fetus.

I was really touched for this baby abandoned by a mother on plane from Bahrain. Mother is an ofw working in Bahrain. She gave birth in a little toilet on plane and then wrapped the baby on tissue and dump him on the garbage bin. WOW. The mother has a family. Now govt officials are going to sue the mother for abandoning the baby. Do you think she deserves it?

I am in favor for it. I have some speculations here. I dont know all facts but lets say: she was raped by her employer if that is true why she didnt tell her family right away months ago when it happned or inform the Phil embassy in Bahrain. She could have an affair with another man in Bahrain and when the baby is going to due she went home to give birth somewhere so her family wont know it. Unfortunately, the baby came out unexpectedly she didnt know what to do or if she informed the cabin crew she will be famous on the news so her family will know...so best she did is dump the baby on the garbage. In my opinion she's guilty and she deserves punishment. Wish i were there on the plane i could have asked her the baby boy for adoption.

This is just sad. I know to many women here in the States that seem to have this kind of mentality. Nothing is more precious than a child.

Whilst the actions of the lady were wrong, I cannot condemn her because I cannot guess at the enormous pressures she was under to make her do what she did.

Many Filipinas are making a huge sacrifice as OFWs for the benefit of their family. Because of the love they have for their family. Those OFWs with children go for months if not years not seeing their children. I can only admire their courage and sacrifice as it must be tough for anybody missing the formative years of their children. To miss their children growing up and to not be there to hold and help them.

For whatever reason the lady becomes pregnant whilst abroad. Having made that sacrifice as an OFW for the benefit of her family sees that sacrifice being thrown away if she fears being rejected by her family because she became pregnant, willingly or not, by somebody other than her husband. Potentially already not thinking rationally because of the hormonal changes to her body, heightened by the imminent meeting with her family. I cannot imagine her mental state at the time as the lady gave birth alone and unaided.

No - I cannot condemn the lady. I condemn those who have mismanaged the Philippines over the years so Filipinas are given little option than to seek work abroad because there is not the opportunity at home to provide for their families.

I respect your opinion Chas but she has to face the consequences of her act. It is hard for her I know, but abandoning a baby in a garbage is not appropriate action. Even leaving my baby at home for few hours with her nanny makes me worry.
