According to the nutrition study vitamins and minerals contain no energy! Vitamins and minerals make energy possible with what they do to carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, but there is no energy in vitamins or mineral. They are just catelysts to help see that energy is derived from the carbs and proteins. Without the good fats you won't have some of the most needed vitamins, A, D, E, & K, because they are fat soluable, and no fat, no vitamins. So as bad as some people think fat is, it is necessary for life and health. There is also a danger with fat soluable vitamins when taking supplements because they can build up in your system to a toxic level and kill you. Most water soluable vitamins will wash out of your system through your kidneys before they will endanger your life, but fat soluable vitamins can be dangerous if one takes too many of them using supplements. A person has to be careful with supplements because you are either wasting your money buying them, or in the worst case you are risking your life, as they can become toxic because they don't go away, they just keep building in your fat until they basically poison you. Vitamins and minerals are usually no problem from eating them in foods, it is just when taking supplements that they can be deadly.

Dude, EVERYTHING is energy. Everything is composed of atoms with electrons, protons and neutrons which are in motion--every cell in your body, every rock, every tree. That includes vitamins and minerals. So don't say vitamins and minerals contain no energy.

For me all my college classes are important in that they help me fulfill my requirement to maintain my teaching certificate. I don't know that I will ever teach again, but I want to keep the door open, because if you allow your certificate to lapse, then you come under a whole new set of rules. I have heard that in Washington State they are now requiring teachers to have Masters Degrees. At the time I went through teacher's education some of the schools would not hire teachers with Masters Degrees because they would have to pay them more money, and it would be worse if you had a Doctor's Degree. I knew one teacher who went through the entire education for his Doctor's Degree, then he refused to do the last finish up for it, because he said that he would place himself out of the market if he had a Doctor's Degree. Well, things have changed, and I am retired, so I don't want to go the next steps for a Masters or Doctors, as my B A is good enough, and qualifies me as long as I don't let it lapse.

The music classes I have taken I consider to be highly worthwhile for me as that is what I enjoy. The nutrition class that I took is one of the most important classes that I have ever taken, in that it has given me knowledge about what is good, and what is bad, and what I can do to improve and maintain my health. I got so much wonderful information that I am just thankful every day that I took it. I knew a lot of the information from a former fitness/nutrition class I took years ago, but this course was more in depth, and more demanding to complete, which was bitter/sweet. I sweat blood over the tests and requirements, but I learned a whole bunch of good stuff! I would recommend it to anyone! :D :D :D :D

How is energy described in scientific terms in the study of nutrition? Energy is described as Calories per gram. With fat there are 9 Calories per gram. That is a lot of energy. If you take in more energy than you expend through exercise you will gain weight. It is far easier for fat to become fat on your body than any other energy source as it doesn't have to make as many changes to end up there, and if you are not exercising most of it will end up on your stomach. Good fat is necessary though, so fat is not bad, but it is not a good idea to eat more of it than you burn through exercise. Alcohol has 7 Calories per gram, which means that if you take in a lot of it you will gain weight, unless you have already become diseased from drinking too much alcohol. Alcohol has a lot of energy also. Alcohol is supposedly no all bad, but drinking to excess is always bad. Nutritionists recommend if you don't drink, don't start, but if you do drink, only have one drink per day for women, or two drinks per day for men. That is because women lack an enzime necessary to process alcohol, so the effects are more harmful for women than men, and they become intoxicated more easily than men. Alcohol is not considered a food or nutrition because of its harmful effects. Everyone has a different idea of whether or not, or how much they should drink. I don't think anyone should drink any alcohol because I have seen its destruction in our own family. A person's body will metabolize one drink per hour, which means any more than that will make you drunk. Protein is energy at 4 Calories per gram. The main job of protein is to build your muscles and maintain them. If a person eats more protein than energy expended then that person will gain weigh, mostly fat on the stomach. Carbohydrate is the source of fuel for the body when you are working hard. Carbohydrate has energy at 4 Calories per gram. If you eat more carbohydrates than you expend in exercise you will gain weight and mostly fat on your stomach. It is a common misconception about vitamins and minerals and energy. Vitamins have 0 Calories per gram which means they have no energy. Minerals have 0 Calories per gram which means they have no energy. That is difficult for a lot of people to believe, but it is true. If you diet without exercising mostly what you will lose is muscle mass, and you will maintain your body fat. There is a whole lot more to the study of nutritioin, but that is basically it. Eat a variety of foods, don't over eat, and get some exercise, like walking, minimum 30 minutes a day, 45 is better, and 90 minutes is better yet, which is considered ideal. Then 120 minues is what I do most every day. The dogs love it, and it is good for me! :D :D :D :D Of course now most every day I am digging in my cellar, which gives me a lot more exercise than that. People want a miracle pill that will help them to be healthy, and that pill is varied diet, good food, and enough exercise.        :D :D :D :D

There are a few things that contribute to chubbiness, that people often are not aware of. When you rest, sit, stand, sleep, your body burns fat. If you short yourself on sleep you will pack more fat onto your body. Another thing that contributes to fat on your body is stress, or being upset, and a lot of people don't realize that. You probably have heard about fight or flight? In the olden days the enemy came, and adreneline was dumped into your blood stream. Your burned that off either by fighting your enemy or running from him. Now we usually don't have to fight or flee from our enemy. But when we get scared, upset, emotionally distressed, stressed, or generally in a state of unrest, our bodies dump high energy into our bloodstreams, and if there is no good reason for this, or we don't need to fight or flee, we don't burn those Calories, and they end up on our bodies as fat.

The idea behind losing fat is to have aeorbic activity, where you walk as fast as you can and still can carry on a conversation. If you are doing that, you are burning fat. You may improve your body and still not lose weight because lean muscle weighs more than fat, so you might even gain a little weight while you are replacing fat with lean muscle. The nice thing about replacing fat with lean muscle is that you will increase your basal metabolic rate, and in that way you will burn more Calories without doing anything.

The way your fat is on your body makes a difference too. If your body is apple shaped, you need to change the shape of your body, because that means that there is too much fat around your vital organs, and it is dangerous for your health. You measure your stomach, and then you measure around your hips. Your hips need to have a larger measurement than your stomach. If your stomach is as large or larger than your hips, you need to give some serious attention to eating and exercising.

Carbohydrates are very important because glucose, or stored glycogen comes from carbohydrates, and glucose fuels our brains, as well as giving us fuel for hard physical activity. If we are short of carbohydrates then a substituted has to be used with some possible toxic effects. Most people eat more protein than they need. Most people don't eat enough complex carbohydrates. Most people consume more simple sugars than they should. Most people don't eat enough fruits and vegetables. Most people don't eat enough whole grains and fibers. You should eat the least amount of trans fatty acids possible, and stay away from hydrogenated oils. We should limit our consumption of saturated fats also as they can contribute to cholesteral, and can lead to cardiovascular disease. Eat the good fats as they nullify the harm from the bad fats. Varied food intake and exercise is very important, and it should help you to feel better, and live longer.        :D :D :D :D
