Lately we have had an excess of mosquitos out on the road where I walk my big doggy Scooby! We seem to have very few mosquitos here at the house where we live. Out on the road is along an area where there has been some swamps until right lately, and it is still somewhat wet in places. Scooby loves to walk on the side of the road, and he stirs them up as he walks through the grasses. They ride on him, but he doesn't like them. He boxes them when they get around his face. They don't bother me too much, but I would just as soon they were not there. I have had a few of them trying to bite me, but I manage to keep most of them away, or kill them as soon as they land on me. The ticks are out too. I pick them off from the dogs, and I have them crawling on me sometimes when I am sleeping, and that wakes me up, after which I send them down the toilet. I just picked 2 huge ones off my big dog Scooby about an hour ago! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Where we lived and worked for 10 years the mosquitos were almost unbearable. At the landing where the boats land, as the only way to get to that place was with a boat or an airlplane, there were very few mosquitos, because it was away from the swampy areas, and then the wind blew hard, and blew any remaining mosquitos away. For the first couple of years we lived in a swampy area, and if we let any mosquitos in the house after 8 p.m., we could not sleep most of the night because of mosquitos biting us, and spending time killing them. The next place we lived by the river had a lot of mosquitos, but not as many, and they didn't bother us at all there.

The road went across the end of the lake, and you could see people walking through that area batting the mosquitos as they walked. Some people would not even walk there because they were so thick. The bakery was at one corner of the lake on the edge of a swampy area, and they had everything screened, because otherwise just being there was unbearable. As I drove the narrated bus tours past the end of the lake part of my speech was about the mosquitos in a humorous way. I had a lot of people question me about the Nile Disease, but our mosquitos are harmless except they make some people itch and swell up. The mosquitos have very little effect on me. They don't care to bite me, and I don't have much reaction from the ones who do, so it is hard for me to be truly sypathetic with people that the mosquitos bother, like my wife, Carol, and one of our daughters, and some of our granddaughters. There were a couple of days here that the mosquitos were thick while I was walking my dogs, but they didn't bother me much. Our granddaughter was disturbed one night by some of them that got into her bedroom, and she does react to the bits. But all in all the mosquitos here are harmless, as they don't carry diseases. They are just a disturbance!

Mosquitos were biting our daughter and others night before last, so some of them were putting on repellant. The mosquitos don't bother me that much, but if I thought I might get sick from them that would be another story and then they would bother me!

The mosquitos here have their overcoats on and they are huddling near the fire! I'm just kidding of course, but it is cold enough here now that not many insects move to far too fast. I am warm when I walk my dogs. Yesterday I wore a tee shirt, another heavy shirt, and another heavy shirt on top of that, and I was walking fast and I wasn't cold, but them I wasn't too warm either. We had the wind and the moisture in the air, and at one point I almost turned around and came home as it began to rain on me, but I'm glad I stayed with it, because it didn't rain enough to get me wet. Tonight I wore one less shirt as it was that much warmer than yesterday evening! :D :D :D :D

If the devil hadn't of shown up in the Garden of Eden as a serpent, he would of shown up as a mosquito.

Ah YES!

Darned mosquitoes, we all try to slap them, even when we know that killing one will have no effect on the general population numbers of the little buggers, BUT, did you know that most people slap they are using the wrong technique? Technique? You say? A slap is a slap, the mosquito is dead no mater the hand or finger hits um. Ah, but we totally discount the misses, those times when they seem to have an unbelievable burst of speed when our hands approach. This is caused by the wind escaping from your hand in front of the slap, the mosquito rides the wave of escaping air that our ears register as a "slap" sound. The solution? swat them with your fingers slightly open, to allow air to escape between them, but not the bug. Like trying to toss a rock through a chain link fence, the mosquito is at least caught partially with one of the fingers.

Still you will not seriously diminish the mosquito crop using the technique, but just a little more often you can have the satisfaction, seeing the corpse, and repeating after me; "THERE I GOT YOU! you miserable biting SOB @!&%(#_*%!!!!"

I have a special technique for killing mosquitos which is much the same as killing flies. Most people are not able to kill flies with their open hands, but I can. I am special!!!!        Pretty funny, huh?

I would not use this technique if our mosquitos carried disease, or if they bothered me, or gave me a reaction, but usually the mosquitos don't care to suck my blood, and when they do I usually have no reaction, and I don't even itch as a result of their bites. But if I were in the Philippines I certainly would not want them biting me, or if I were from Texas or Florida, or any of those countries where those Asian mosquitos have migrated I would not want them biting me either, but where I live I don't care whether they bite me, or whether they don't bite me.

For the mosquitos I allow them to draw a tiny bit of blood, drawing blood can be good for you, at least they used to think that years ago, but I really don't think that is true, so rule that out. As they are intent on drawing blood they have their whatever you call it, tube in drawing blood, and I swat them at that moment. If I get them right away it is a clean kill, but if I don't get them right away then the kill spashes blood all over my hand or arm.

The way I kill flies is that I come down on them very slowly, and I watch for them to squat, and as they are squatting I slap them rapidly, and if I do it correctly I kill them every time. If they are on my leg I raise my leg as I swat them and that works. If they are on a table using that technique will rattle all the dishes on the table, and if people standing around are not aware of what you are doing you will scare them to death while you are killing a fly. I could give a class on killing flies and do some demonstrating, don't you think?        A little silly, huh? This maybe should be in the joke section, except it is no joke!

If I were where the mosquitos spread disease I would clean up all the standing water where they breed, and I would do everything possible to keep them from landing on me, including using the vinegar and lemon juice, as I like everything natural as possble. One place we lived where the mosquitos were bad, we were careful not to let them in the house, and kill them as soon as they came in the house, so that they would not keep us from sleeping at night. We tried to keep the screens working, and in good conditoni, as well as trying to keep the doors closed when possible. :D :D :D :D
